I worked with Belinda Allwood as an architect/consultant over two stages of the building at St Michael's School in Gordonvale from 2009 to 2011. During the first of those stages, I was a brand new principal who had never been involved in a building project before, and I found Belinda excellent in guiding me in ensuring that the best possible outcomes were achieved.
In this stage, we refurbished an existing hall, built a new two storey building which houses the library and three classrooms upstairs, as well as covered walkways and other minor works. Belinda was professional in her approach and ensured that any questions or queries which I had were responded to in a timely manner. She assisted us in making positive decisions about what needed to be included whilst still being mindful of a tight budget. As a first experience, this stage of construction ran smoothly and good relationships between school, architect and builder were established.
The highlight of this stage was that the heritage feel of our school, which is dominated by our beautiful old convent, was not lost in the construction of our new building and the overall look of the school environment has improved. Feedback from the school community and visitors is often summed up by the following comment, "The school has never looked so good!"
Principal, St Michael's School, Gordonvale. (8th May 2012)
I first employed the services of Belinda Allwood in May 2006 to design and draft plans to extend and enhance my outdoor living area.
As I planned to build the project myself with an Owner-Builder permit, I relied heavily on Belinda's expert advice in all matters including design, material selection as well as meeting all code, planning and legislative requirements. Belinda's availability for ongoing assistance during construction was vital in this project, and no question was considered too much effort.
My second residential extension project involving Belinda was in June 2011. Once again, Belinda's design and advice were invaluable to meet budget and strict building regulations. The finished result is better than I had imagined.
Belinda is professional in her approach, is a good communicator and I have found her to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable in all areas pertaining to construction and design.
