The Palm Cove residence sections and detailing reflects Queenslanders and timber vernacular construction, and respects the traditions of 1950s housing from Queensland and the NT in its narrow two-storey plan. It interprets these elements in a contemporary form with a series of spaces that are open and light. Occupying a small suburban lot with a tight footprint, it allows as much tropical garden as possible. The house embraces the principles of The Least House Necessary, but in a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom equivalent. It is an affordable architecturally designed house for a family, constructed for approximately $2200/square metre, which is very reasonable in the north Queensland construction market.
