POD worked with Kramer Ausenco between 2016 and 2017 to design a multipurpose facility in the remote Aboriginal community of Toomelah in New South Wales. The design process included engagement with the Local Aboriginal Land Council, the Australian Army, Moree Shire Council and community organisations. The facility was part of a larger works program that included road, lighting and services upgrades for the whole community. The project was funded and constructed through The Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Programme (AACAP) in 2017. The aim of the multipurpose facility was to create a community hall (on the site of the existing hall) and includes sports facilities, two groups of office spaces for different service providers, a community kitchen, a classroom/meeting room and amenities. The new facility overlooks and interacts with the public gathering space between the Hall and the Church and provides an important entry statement and a focal point for Toomelah.
