On Thursday 6th October there will be a free evening lecture on the history of Cairns urban design and architecture by Dr Shaneen Fantin at The Cairns Institute at James Cook University. Lost Cairns is the theme of the talk and explores great local architecture from around the region including the work of Edwin Oribin, Syd Barnes and Ted Orchard.
The festival will also host its very popular free public walk on Sunday 9th October through parts of the CBD. This year’s theme is “Cairns Public Places – The Design Stories”. The walk includes new sites around the CBD, and will be followed by a bus tour of local award winning buildings including The Artillery Museum and The Tobruk Pool. The Design Story behind each building will be explained by the lead architect on each project. There is a group lunch for a small fee which includes food and one drink. This will take place between the walking tour and the bus tour.
